Center celebrates grand opening, connects food insecure neighbors with vital resources

ATLANTA, GA, June 29, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — The Atlanta Community Food Bank, the central hub in the fight against hunger in Atlanta and North Georgia, is celebrating the grand opening of its newest Community Food Center. The Community Food Center – Marietta is the second for the Food Bank and is located at 1605 Austell Rd., Marietta, GA 30008. An official ribbon cutting ceremony is slated for Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 10 am. Attending guests will be invited to tour the facility and learn more about the current endeavors of the Food Bank.

“Built with generous support from our community, we are delighted to establish the newest Community Food Center in the city of Marietta where existing resources lag behind the need for food assistance,” said Kyle Waide, President & CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. “This new facility is part of our long-term strategy focused on making access to food assistance more convenient, consistent, frequent, and equitable across our food pantry network. With each new Community Food Center, we can distribute more food, engage more volunteers, and grow healthier futures for our neighbors in need.”

The newest food center is 8,320 sq. ft. and will operate as a food pantry, distributing food directly to local families. The new site is anticipated to help approximately 700 families a week and will continue to scale up as needed.

One of the center’s founding donors is Takeda, a global, values-based, R&D-driven biopharmaceutical company, which partners with local and regional organizations that align with its philanthropic focus areas and share its values and commitment to transforming lives.

“Achieving better health outcomes requires a multi-faceted approach and a more holistic view of health and well-being,” states Takeda. “Our philanthropic efforts in the U.S. focus on multiple areas including helping reduce social disparities, improving access to medicines and diagnoses, achieving environmental sustainability, promoting equitable educational opportunities, and ensuring healthy food sources for vulnerable individuals and families.”

The Marietta Community Food Center is made possible in part by the generous support of the following founding donors: Takeda Pharmaceutical Company, Publix Super Markets Charities, Subramonian and Lakshmi Shankar, Kaiser Permanente of Georgia, The True Vine Experience Foundation, and Delta Air Lines.

The Food Bank also operates the Community Food Center – Stone Mountain in Gwinnett County, which opened in 2020 during the height of the global pandemic to help meet the growing need for support. The Community Food Center – Stone Mountain is located at 1979 Parker Ct., Stone Mountain, GA 30087.

About Atlanta Community Food Bank
The Atlanta Community Food Bank works to end hunger with the food, people and big ideas needed to ensure our neighbors have the nourishment to lead healthy and productive lives. Far too many people in our own community experience hunger every day, including children, seniors and working families. Through more than 700 community-based, nonprofit partners in 29 counties, we help more than 611,000 people get healthy food every year. Our goal is that all hungry people across metro Atlanta and north Georgia will have access to the nutritious meals they need when they need them. It takes the power of our whole community to make that possible. In 2023, the Atlanta Community Food Bank distributed its one billionth meal. Join us at acfb.org.
